Hitotsubashi University Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement

Since Hitotsubashi University was founded, its mission has been to produce leaders who will contribute broadly to the building of society. As a comprehensive university for the social sciences, it has contributed to the development of political and economic society in Japan and abroad and fostered the creative driving force for such development. The University has carefully nurtured every student and produced free and original research with the aim of sending cultured and civil-minded graduates out into the world.

In today's increasingly globalized society, it is crucial that institutions which educate people to conceptualize, innovate, and lead the development of political and economic society create an environment for education and research where all participants who study or work in the institution have mutual respect for differences and can exercise their own abilities to the fullest extent.

Reaffirming itself as an extraordinary academic community of abundant open-mindedness, Hitotsubashi University aims to be a unique and fascinating institution that engages with global social issues. With this Statement, we declare to those both within and outside the University that we will proactively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We recognize that our students and teaching staff exhibit diverse attributes, including race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, presence or absence of disabilities and disorders, age, language, religion, faith, origin, status, and family relations. By preserving dignity and ensuring fair inclusion for all, we will strive to be an organization where every participant can have a sense of belonging and pride as a member of the University community.
